Training questions
I am under the impression that, to get into truckinng, a person is best off training not by a company sponsored program but via a community college, or a for profit outfit.
What I gather is that the company sponsored programs are too short and don't adquately train, plus they aren't really "free" (you pay for it no matter). I also gather that getting on via the company sposored route entails jobs with worse conditions for a new recruit. Is this correct? If it is possible to get on "good" with a company sponsored program, which programs are the better ones, and which employers are the good guys? What can I really expect to make in OTR work? IF I go with the community college, how will that degree look to hiring companies, and might I make more, to start? I am thinking of trying to go to this place: Tennessee Technology Center at Nashville. I was told that they just got some new volvos. The program takes about 6 weeks. What do you all think? Thanks |
