Researching Truckers
I am writing a research paper on the topic of how truckers have created a trucker's culture unique from other cultures. This project is for an English class that I am in at Modesto Junior College in CA. I am looking for professional truck drivers to tell me about what it is like being a trucker by answering some of these questions.
1. How did you learn to become part of the culture of trucking? Did someone teach you or did you learn by doing?
2. What would you teach someone who wanted to become part of the trucking culture?
3. What is some of the jargon that truckers use?
4. Why did you choose to become a trucker?
5. Are there social rules, or behaviors that are expected of truckers?
6. Are there any customs that truckers have, that are separate from mainstream culture?
7. Are there any beliefs, attitudes, or opinions that are common among truckers?
8. What makes you feel like you are a member of this culture of trucking?
9. How is trucking culture different from mainstream culture?
10. What role do you play in the culture of trucking?
Please don't feel like you have to answer all of the questions. Just answer as many as you can. The purpose of my paper is to prove that truckers have a culture that is separate and valid from mainstream culture. I really appreciate your help. You can answer the questions either by responding in the forum or you can email me at tim7510@hotmail.com. It would also be helpful to have your real name and your hometown, so that I can quote you. Thanks again.
